Research

Within Franklinton, there are so many families that either need help obtaining their GED, do not have access to developmental resources or they do not know the different career routes available. My project would be a community development program focused on educating and empowering those in need.
Changes Made
I decided to nix the idea of having a co-working space in order to maximize the space for the programs that I thought were more important and cohesive to my overall concept. I decided to focus on two educational programs, carpentry and CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) training. I also added woodworking classes, available to everyone, as a way to maximize the use of the wood shop and provide a useful hobby to the community.
Schematic Design Development
This step entailed adding the finishing touches to my overall design while defining the parklet and figuring out which perspective views would communicate my ideas the best.

The final design can be found under the Community Squared Design Development project.
